Hey boo’s!
I KNOW it has been quite awhile since I popped up on this here blog but nonetheless I have not forgotten about my babes!!! on a serious tip, anyone in school knows about the refund check situation that happens if your financial aid exceeds your expenses. Well here are some tips I have gathered together about how you should spend or invest your allotted funds no matter how big or small. 1. Save it! now some schools like my undergraduate and graduate school will allow you to just leave it on your account to use for the next semester or to “hold” as long as you acknowledge that within the process of financial checkin servicing. I however opt for the last option which is to get it sent to me and I place in within my own account, pay my tithes and offerings and work it out accordingly amongst my own finances. 2. Books Books and MORE Books Depending on how hefty your refund is, I would say after you pay your tithes and offerings sis (don’t rob God, AINT worth it) put a good chin I of that money to the side for your books for the next semester or year. Having some money left to use for that necessity is better than having none at all. 3. Wardrobe Here’s a fun way to splurge ESPECIALLY if you are making them grades and handing in that homework on time girls!!! Splurge on one ☝🏾 item that is non essential, i.e. nails, new boots, a faux fur jacket, new cellphone case etc.) 4. SAVE for a Car If I had done the math correctly and knew more about how refunds work I honestly could have had two cars right now but I didn’t. So I don’t but TRUST them refund checks add up sis!!! So why not save for a while and buy a car for graduation??? 5. Emergency Fund Alright sugar boo’s y’all never know what can happen while in school, my freshman semester I had a bout with food poisoning from good ole ’potle Aka Chipotle and had no extra funds to spend on medicinal needs. But Grace be unto God because He has mercy on me and my school cafeteria and vendors actually made sure I was taken care of free of charge from soups, to drinks and medicine. I also had a dear friend of mine to pay for extras like cough drops and laundry due to me throwing up over all of my comforter and clothing hamper. Putting a portion of your refund check into a mini emergency fund for, gas, medical needs or toiletries is one of the better ways to utilize the money from your refund check. Lovelies!!!!
Why is it that no matter what age you are or what grade you are in, the same fears plague you when school time rolls in? Who's in my classes? Will the classes be hard? What should I wear? Are there any new cuties in school? etc. I mean I am excited for the FINAL year of graduate school to start, but these questions can sometimes put a damper on the positive part of preparing for going back. So some things that I do to keep the positive vibes rolling is: 1. Spend time with friends 2. List the good things I already enjoy about being in school? 3. Look out for fun events on and around your school or campus that can help you look forward to school. Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi Being a first generation college student is a whole trip.
I wish there was a manual for this crap but there's no fun in that really... and you would never learn anything. Anyway, I have found solace in prayer when it comes to doing things regarding school. I don't want to make these decisions alone and there is only so much family advice can take me. So my advice to you all lovelies is be cautious and conscious of the advice you take. Most importantly seek God's advice above all. He's got your back more than anybody and only wants the best for you in everything! Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi Hey Boo's let me just say this is one of my spaces where I can write AND be relaxed aF so with that being said let's talk about some SELF CARE executive decisions. I have decided to switch up my own personal educational plan and as I was talking it out with a close relative and not necessarily getting the reassurance I wanted I realized an important truth. NO ONE has to be on board with your educational goals or plans BUT YOU & God! SO... I began to relax, I made some steps in the direction I wanted to go in and have not turned back. I hope you understand that learning is endless and life is a teacher, you don't need a degree to ace it, but what does help is the confidence that comes from GOD! Anyway's Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi It's summa, summa, summa time sugar boogz and let me tell you, it will fly by if you let it. So don't be like me these past years and not enjoy it to the fullest.
But DO save for the upcoming semester. Whether it be for a new fall/winter wardrobe or books for the new school year make sure that you are being smart with your summer finances. Here are some tips and tricks I have learned from people around me regarding money. 1. Leave That Debit/Credit Card At Home. Monday-Friday leave your debit card at home and only use an allotted amount of money that you have withdrawn from the ATM for everyday expenses like lunch, minor grocery store trips etc. until your next paycheck (Saturday & Sunday use your debit/credit card at your leisure RESPONSIBLY.) 2. EAT AT HOME! I had to write that in all caps mostly for myself because I have a hard time with this one the most but baby loves when I see that money in my account after eating at my house for several times a week I am ecstatic. part 2a. (If you are an avid fan of food like moi you will need someone to talk you off the ledge whenever you are enticed to go out a grab a bite to eat instead of cooking at your crib. For me, that person is my sister. She will shut that nonsense down in a hot second and I'm grateful for that.) 3. Write Out A Budget & Plan Accordingly What I do now is dictate which checks I have coming in to the different needs and wants list that I have complied. I usually push my wants off until my later checks and make sure I leave the checks I have coming in sooner to take care of the bills and needs that I have right away. Please feel free to share tips below and or try some of the tips I have listed above and let me know how your budget has turned itself around. Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi Hey sugassssss, I have one year of graduate school down and have been slightly dreading this semester's grades 'cause when I tell you I BARELY passed one class. Baby I barely passed.
You are not allowed to get lower than C in any course for your master's degree and you can only have two C's on your degree to get your diploma and both classes I was in challenged ya girl. So the last month in school I kicked it into full gear and was calculating points and percentages just to make sure I would be able to pass and I did. All in all I learned 1.When you don't know what to do ask ask ask and ask again. 2. Email IS your best-friend. 3. If A Teacher is being unreasonable hit them with the Triple Threat (1. document them 2.report them, 3. end of the year teacher evaluation.) 4. Self-Care 5.Prioritize Time EXTRA wisely 6. Enjoy the time Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi ![]() Sugar Boogz its been a hot second but I am coming at you with a brand new attitude (heavy Patti LaBelle emphasis). Anywhooooooooo, I have had some time to myself and here is what I came to the realization of. I DESERVE to act in a manner that would cause every person on my team to chant AYE!!!!!! What I mean by that is gosh darn it I deserve some hard earned fun, but not before I get my work done. So lovelies the advice for this week is to YES! Act Up! but not without getting your *ish done. Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi ![]() 1. Roll How You Can Afford: Do Not get tangled up into traveling like others do whether it be an ill timed road trip with less than appealing company or flying and paying obscene baggage charges because your bags are overweight (been there NOT GOING BACK) Travel how you want and the method you want to. Consider it a treat to yourself and whether or not you have a friend to travel with cherish the solitude and save those coins. 2. Snack-Call (Role- Call): Pre-purchase snacks to avoid overpriced airport or train station food cause baybayyyy if y’all are anything like me y’all will end up overspending and wasting money that could be used elsewhere. 3. Travel Company’s: Shop around before you splurge on Uber or Lyfts/Taxis etc. If you have family in the area or friends ask them for help with transportation and what are the BEST days and times to travel. For example: if you travel in CT anywhere rush hour traffic is TRAGIC. So I avoid booking flights around 4-7 PM. I avoid traffic and am able to get to where I need without stress. However if you aren’t from CT you wouldn’t know that so ask, ask, ASK!!!! 4. The Bigger The Bag The More You Can Stash: I find traveling by train super convenient while going to and from Grad school and it had not been this way in undergrad. (I flew quite frequently seeing as though no train routes went into the town that I went to school in). Traveling by train you can take up to four bags with you (size is suppose to matter but it really don't though) Which means as the tip says (the bigger your bag, the MORE your can stash!!! & nooooo excess baggage fee! Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi Where have I been?
Well the title of the blog seemingly points you in the direction of where this explanation is headed. I have had one trying spring semester and baby loves when I tell you I am READY for a break. Oh am I ready. Needless to say I am extremely excited to say that my first year of graduate school is close to done and I have merely two more semester to go! I had to really evaluate was I really interested in finishing honestly, where did I see myself after school and even during school and fighting the urge to detach and go through the motions. While it is scary to give your entirety to a person/place thing or dream I encourage you to do it anyway. While the game plan you have may need to change on how to achieve your dreams keep adjusting and watch the gains keep coming!! AS ALWAYS LOVELIES Thank you sooooo so much for sticking with me and my blog!!!! Peace & Blessings, <3 Nándi Hebrews 4:9-10 (NKJV)
"There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His." Sugar boogs!!!!! I hope all of my lovely ladies (and men if you follow this blog :) are having an amazing Christmas break! Here are a do's and don't list I have accumulated over the now several years I have attend college that I apply to my own life for maximum break enjoyment. 1. #treatyoself It is called a break for a reason!!!!! Indulge in some healthy self care that helps you decompress and de-stress from school life. I personally love to indulge in the 2 for $5 face masks you can find at Walmart and some bomb aroma therapy (via my mini diffuser and or candles w/essential oils) 2. #businessbeforepleasure Don't turn your break into another reason to stress. Leave that GPA and sucky grades behind.Make a practical plan to help you do better in the future with an adviser BEFORE you go on break so that you don't have to think about planning a meeting with them when you return. 3. #itsyourbreakyoucancryifyouwantto Lovelies, by the governments standards y'all are grown, so you can literally do whatever you want. I've had breaks where I've simply opted to not come back to CT and enjoy some me time or I flew back at the drop of a dime as soon as my last class ended. IT'S YOUR BREAK! It can be as exciting or as carefree as you want it to be. My suggestion: make it a priority to enjoy your time in the now of the vacation rather than stress about what's coming up in the next semester. I know it's easier said than done, but I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT! :) Thanks for reading lovelies! Peace & Blessings <3 Nándi |
